Guidelines to activities
Grass Sledges.   Safe Operating Guidelines
Location
The sledges Must only be used in the area designated by the Camp Staff
Supervision:-
 
The supervising Leader/Teacher should position themselves so that they have an overall view of the activity, at all times. If more than one supervisor, they should position themselves, one at the top of the hill, and one at the bottom of the hill. If this is the case, then the supervisor at the top of the hill must take the lead.                      
The Lead Supervisor Must:-      
Ensure that the participants behave in an appropriate manner.
Ensure that the participants have suitable clothing and footwear for the activity.
Ensure that all participants are instructed in the safe use of the sledges.
Ensure that correctly fitted helmets are worn at all times by the active sledge riders.
Ensure that only one person rides the sledge at all times.
Ensure the sledge is pointed straight down the hill at not at an angle.
Ensure sledge riders know they must allow the sledge to stop naturally and not use their feet.
Ensure that any person pushing a sledge off, Does Not, travel more that two steps whilst pushing a sledge away, and Does Not. run behind, alongside or in front of the sledge.
Ensure that the rider stays seated during the sledge run.
Ensure that the Sledges are returned to the equipment store, and Campsite Staff are informed that your group have finished using them.  Please report any defect with the sledges to the member of Staff.

Adult & Infants

Adults and infants are prohibited from riding on the grass sledges at all times.

If there is a supervisor at the bottom of the hill, they should:-

Ensure waiting participants stand to the side of the sledging area.
Ensure waiting participants do not go onto the area to collect the sledges (the previous user should take the sledge back up the hill to the start).

Soft Archery.   Safe Operating Guidelines

The supervisor Must ensure that:-

The Soft Archery activity takes place in a safe environment,
either indoors or outdoors.

All participants are wearing the appropriate clothing and footwear.

A safe area is allocated for the nonactive participants to wait in.  This must be behind the archery shooting range.

All participants are instructed on the safe use of the Soft Archery equipment.

Only the active participant to stand on the shooting line.

The active participant must only shoot at the target allocated to him/her.

All participants and spectators are clearly warned of the dangers of walking in front of the archer and the target.

All active participants only collect used arrows from the range when the supervisor gives clear instructions to do so.


When the Activity is over, the equipment must be checked and packed away, and a member of staff informed. 
If any fault, damage or missing arrows etc. the member of staff must be
informed.

Pedal Karts.   Safe Operating Guidelines

Location
The Pedal Karts Must only be used on the dedicated track situated on Leach Field.


Supervision:-


The supervising Leader/Teacher should position themselves in order to have an overall view of the Pedal Kart track and the participants.


The Supervisor Must:-      
Ensure that the participants behave in an appropriate manner.
Ensure that the participants have suitable clothing and footwear for the activity.
Ensure that the participants are instructed in the safe use of the Pedal Karts.
Ensure that the Pedal Kart is the correct size for the participant and the seat is adjusted correctly.
Ensure that correctly fitted helmets are worn at all times by the active riders.
Ensure that only one person rides on the Pedal Kart at any one time.
Ensure that all the participants who are not actively taking part, stay within the safe area, chosen and highlighted by the Supervisor.  The participants waiting for their turn must be supervised at all times.
Ensure that no one enters the track during the activity.
Ensure that active participants only travel in the direction of the set course. 
Ensure that participants do not deliberately collide with another Pedal Kart, or the rubber tyres bordering the track.
Ensure that the Pedal Karts are return to the equipment store and Campsite Staff are informed that your group have finished using them.  Please report any defect with the Pedal Karts to the member of Staff.

Soft Tomahawks.   Safe Operating Guidelines

The supervisor Must ensure that:-

The Soft Tomahawks activity takes place in a safe environment,
either indoors or outdoors.

All participants are wearing the appropriate clothing and footwear.

A safe area is allocated for the nonactive participants to wait in.  This must be to one side and behind the throwing range.

All participants are instructed on the safe use of the soft Tomahawks equipment.

Only the active participant to stand on the throwing line.

The active participant must only throw at the target allocated to him/her.

All participants and spectators are clearly warned of the dangers of walking in front of, and behind, the thrower.

All active participants only collect used Tomahawks from the range when the supervisor gives clear instructions to do so.


When the Activity is over, the equipment must be checked and packed away, and a member of staff informed. 
If any fault, damage or missing Tomahawks etc. the member of staff must be
informed.

Low Ropes.   Safe Operating Guidelines

Location
Behind the Crossbow and the Air Rifle ranges.


Supervision:-


The Supervising Leader/Teacher should always position themselves within in the Low Ropes Compound.


The Supervisor Must:-


Ensure that the participants behave in an appropriate manner.
Ensure that the participants have suitable clothing and footwear for the activity.
Ensure that the participants are instructed in the safe use of the Low Ropes equipment.
Ensure that correctly fitted helmets are worn by the participants at all times, when in the compound.
Ensure that only maximum of six participants are actually on the low ropes course at a time.
Ensure that the participants do not try to pass a slower participant or push them off an apparatus, when negotiating the Low ropes course.
Ensure that, if the course becomes unsafe due to the weather, the activity is stopped immediately.
Ensure that the Helmets are returned to the stores and the compound is securely locked.
Ensure that a member of staff is informed that your group has finished the activity
